Studies of Wood Firing: Hand-built forms, 2025

Porcelain

Xiamen, China

Handbuilt to resemble the qualities of bone or stones, this piece was made during my 2025 residency in Xiamen, China. The work incorporates lots of organic lines and holes to be able to absorb more of the wood fired effects into each nook and cranny. Made with porcelain, the piece has flashes of brown and grey through the oxidation and reduction process of wood firing, contrasting heavily from its original stark white appearance before the firing. It aims to represent the beauty and process of wood firing.
