Studies of Japanese tableware, 2023

Local Japanese clay with iron oxide, shino, ofuke and oribe glazes

Seto, Japan

Created during my three-month apprenticeship in Japan, Studies of Japanese tableware showcases my newfound knowledge of studio management and exploration of traditional Japanese craft under the rigorous training of a Sensei. This series focuses on classic Japanese forms, using a blend of red iron oxide, shino, ofuke and oribe glazes —to honour and refine centuries-old techniques.
